MAINTENANCE WORKER

Job Summary
Assist mechanics and other maintenance workers with repairs on electrical, mechanical, plumbing, air conditioning, heating, and boiler systems. Perform pick-up and delivery of supplies, blood, and equipment using a department truck. Inspect fire extinguishers, lights, and television sets in patient rooms, replacing items as necessary. Paint and redecorate walls, woodwork, furniture, and fixtures inside buildings and on hospital properties, including surface preparation and scaffolding management. Execute any unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance duties, boiler attendant responsibilities, and local travel as assigned. Full-time, 80-hour pay period, day shift. Valid Tennessee Class D driver's license and prior maintenance experience required.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate (or have GED, unless employed in this position prior to either being a requirement)
- Must be able to read with comprehension
- Must be able to write legibly
- Must be able to perform simple mathematic calculations
- Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
- Must be familiar with building maintenance techniques
- Must be familiar with work and limitations of various crafts involved in building maintenance
- Must have the ability to mix and blend paints in order to obtain desirable colors
- Must have the ability to estimate time and cost involved in work orders
- Must have the ability to choose types of paint necessary for various surfaces
- Must have the ability to direct placing and moving of scaffolding
- Must have the ability to make decorative designs with transfers and stencils
- Must have the ability to apply paint by several methods
- Must be capable of maintaining concentration with attention to detail for prolonged periods of time
- Must be capable of working under emergency and/or stressful conditions
- Previous maintenance work experience is required
- Must have Mechanical skills
- Must have a valid Tennessee driver's license Class D
- Must have state mandated minimum insurance coverage
- Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure
- Local travel required
