Job Summary
Perform skilled welding work on structural steel, machinery, and equipment using acetylene and electric ARC welding. Execute cutting, brazing non-ferrous metals, and fabricate special tools while maintaining inventory of district-owned materials. Inspect completed jobs to ensure cleanliness and detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established procedures. Collaborate with building principals and supervisors to complete projects and sharpen tools as required. Maintain physical stamina for heavy lifting, working in extreme temperatures, and on high structures using ladders or lifts. Requires three years of welding experience, a valid Texas driver's license, and the ability to read blueprints.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Has working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade
- Has the ability to read blueprints and drawings and make layouts
- Has strength and stamina necessary to perform heavy lifting and to work in heat and in uncomfortable positions, and at heights from ladders or a lift
- Has skill in the use and care of tools and equipment
- Three years of welding experience, including a working knowledge of the practices, materials, methods and the tools of the welding trade
- Reading and basic math
- Maintain emotional control under stress and demanding situations
- Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching and heavy lifting and carrying
- Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, inside and outside
- Exposure to extreme temperatures
- Work on high structures using ladders and scaffolding
