Job Summary
Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the district. Assist skilled workers with repairing woodwork, replacing electrical fixtures, plumbing systems, and broken glass. Inspect building exteriors, interiors, playground equipment, and grounds for minor repairs or major issues requiring reporting. Complete repairs as directed on work orders or by the maintenance foreman. Assist with snow removal, mowing, and detailing of district grounds. Move, install, assemble, and repair school furniture and playground equipment. Operate hand and power tools while following established safety procedures. Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required. Drive and travel frequently districtwide and occasionally statewide.
Required Qualifications
- Clear and valid Kansas driver's license
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)
- Ability to operate hand and power tools
- Ability to work independently
- Experience in general building maintenance
- Requires the ability to frequently use small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools
- Requires the ability to operate a light truck or van
- Requires the ability to maintain emotional control while under stress and in stressful situations
- Requires the ability to frequently stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders/scaffolding, regularly grasp/squeeze, wrist flexion/extension, and reach overhead
- Requires the ability to lift and carry items 45 lbs. and over daily
- Requires the ability to work on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, on and around vehicles
- Requires the ability to work with frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts
- Requires the ability to work and concentrate in noisy and crowded environments
- Requires timeliness and regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job
Desired Qualifications
- Basic electrical & plumbing experience (preferred)
- Experience in general building maintenance (preferred)
