Maintenance Technician

Job Summary

Execute work orders and scheduled preventive maintenance for electrical, plumbing, heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems as directed by the maintenance director. Perform repairs, replace parts, and adjust equipment including pumps, motors, and safety devices while maintaining fire and safety gear. Clean lighting, fans, heating units, and ice makers, keeping work sites orderly and managing garbage compactor and loading dock areas. Operate snow blowers, shovels, and trash compactors for emergency snow removal or outside tasks as needed. Assume on-call responsibilities for weekends, holidays, and emergencies, and participate in fire and disaster safety programs. Run errands to pick up parts and perform other regular or special duties assigned by the maintenance director or supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of maintenance experience
  • Strong electrical experience
  • General troubleshooting and repair skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Dependable, organized, and safety-minded
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Good attendance
  • Mechanical background to include knowledge of heating systems
  • Knowledge of both hot water and low pressure steam pump motors
  • Knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of wiring
  • Knowledge of carpentry
  • Knowledge of refrigeration
  • Good range of motion
  • Ability to lift 80 pounds
  • Safety conscious
  • Ability to use tools of the department
  • Ability to climb step and extension ladders
  • Ability to use two and four wheel cars
  • Ability to drive a pick-up truck
  • PA Driver's License
  • Must have a telephone
  • Ability to work outside in all weather elements
  • Ability to work on high ladders and roofs
  • Ability to work in large and small areas
  • Ability to work in some well lit and some not lit areas
  • Ability to work in some well ventilated and some not ventilated areas
  • Ability to work on ground surfaces or in holes
  • Ability to operate snow blowers
  • Ability to shovel snow
  • Ability to operate trash compactor
  • Ability to perform test(s) of energy power equipment
  • Ability to participate in fire/disaster/safety program
  • Ability to keep maintenance areas in clean and orderly fashion
  • Ability to keep garbage compactor and loading dock areas clean and free from debris
  • Ability to keep Maintenance director informed of problems with equipment, buildings, and grounds
  • Ability to assume on-call responsibilities as scheduled on weekends, holidays or emergency situations using cell phone
  • Ability to assist with emergencies when directed by supervisor as needed throughout the facility
  • Ability to carry out preventative maintenance program by repairing and /or replacing parts according to schedules
  • Ability to clean and maintain lighting, fans, heating units, etc.
  • Ability to clean ice maker
  • Ability to make repairs of all electrical, plumbing, heating, cooling, refrigeration, safety and fire equipment and other facility equipment
  • Ability to check pumps, motors, plumbing repairs and installation, air conditioning, refrigeration, heating systems, hot water
  • Ability to hook up and adjust TV's
  • Ability to run errands and pick up parts both inside and outside of the facility
