Maintenance Technician - Welding

Job Summary
Conduct general maintenance on park amenities, grounds, and facilities, including welding, fabrication, and cutting with an acetylene torch. Operate equipment such as mowers, trucks, tractors, chainsaws, forklifts, bobcats, and boom trucks to repair vandalism and renovate existing structures. Prepare material lists, order supplies, and assist in delivering equipment for city-sponsored events. Perform snow removal and storm cleanup as necessary, while potentially working with or supervising inmates. Requires a valid Class A CDL, three years of welding experience, and the ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- Skills in welding & fabrication and cutting & shaping with acetylene torch
- Knowledge of different welding techniques and structural strength of different metals
- Ability to repair & fabricate using welding techniques and equipment
- Skills in planning, organizing, and directing crews, operation of trucks, tractors, mowers, chainsaws, forklift, bobcat, boom truck and other equipment used in park maintenance
- Knowledge of general park maintenance procedures
- Knowledge of department rules and regulations
- Ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to communicate effectively with subordinates and the general public
- Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's license (CDL) required or must have ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
- Must attend a work release supervisor training class annually
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Three or more years of fabrication and welding experience required to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment
