Job Summary
Maintenance Technician at Landry High School within Algiers Charter responsible for routine inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, and safety compliance of school facilities and equipment. Tasks include plumbing, electrical, HVAC, lighting maintenance; general repairs (leaks, windows, walls, painting, filters); maintaining classroom technology and gym/kitchen equipment; assisting with events setup; minor carpentry and grounds maintenance; safety drills and compliance with health and safety regulations; coordinating with facilities manager and external vendors for specialized services; keeping detailed maintenance records. Requires ability to perform a variety of tasks, operate power tools safely, lift up to 50 pounds, and travel between school sites if needed. High school diploma or equivalent required; maintenance certification is a plus; minimum 2 years of facilities maintenance experience preferred in school settings; strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification in maintenance, facilities management, or a related field is a plus
- At least 2 years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related field, preferably in a school or institutional setting
- Experience with general repair, maintenance, and safety protocols for buildings and grounds
- Familiarity with operation of tools, machinery, and equipment used in maintenance tasks
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly and efficiently
- Ability to perform a variety of maintenance tasks including basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC maintenance
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform work to a high standard of quality
- Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with staff, administrators, and external contractors
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation if required to travel between school sites
