Job Summary
Perform advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of campus buildings, systems, and infrastructure, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical work. Diagnose and fix building-related issues, conduct routine inspections to identify safety concerns, and complete maintenance work orders in a timely, professional manner. Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing capital improvement projects, renovations, and preventative maintenance programs while managing contractor oversight and project schedules. Maintain accurate records of repairs and inspections, ensure compliance with safety standards and building codes, and support emergency response efforts as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree, technical certification, licensed trade training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in facilities maintenance, construction, commercial building operations, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in multiple skilled trades, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and building maintenance
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Advanced knowledge of commercial building systems, maintenance practices, construction methods, and building materials
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting systems, controls, low-voltage systems, and troubleshooting techniques
- Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, fixtures, water distribution, drainage systems, pumps, valves, and repair methods
- Working knowledge of HVAC equipment and building automation systems
- Familiarity with fire and life safety systems
- Understanding of applicable building codes, OSHA standards, and safety regulations
- Ability to interpret blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and technical manuals
- Knowledge of construction project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously
- Experience coordinating contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders
- Ability to estimate labor, materials, and project costs
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills related to facilities and construction projects
- Ability to identify process improvements and implement effective solutions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Ability to prepare reports, project updates, and maintenance documentation
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and initiative
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physically demanding maintenance work
- Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, confined spaces, rooftops, and construction areas
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and snow removal equipment
- Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements
Desired Qualifications
- Experience assisting with facility renovation, construction, or capital improvement projects preferred
- Journeyman-level experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or a related building trade
- Construction management coursework, certification, or practical experience
- Project Management training, certification, or demonstrated project leadership experience
- Experience working in higher education, healthcare, commercial, or institutional facilities
