Maintenance Technician - 1st Shift

Job Summary

Install, maintain, and repair machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems to ensure continuous production operations. Perform preventative maintenance on machines and conduct daily inspections of cooling systems, air compressors, and general equipment, while performing monthly inspections of safety devices and exit lights. Assess situations quickly in emergencies and correct safety issues as needed to maintain a safe work environment. Read and modify electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic machine prints. Work extended hours and be on call nights and weekends when emergencies arise. Coordinate with production, training, and other departments, and prioritize job requests from all company personnel. Maintain continuity of maintenance operations across shifts and work closely with outside contractors on equipment installation and repair.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university
  • one to two years related experience

  • Have the ability to assess situations and react quickly in emergencies
  • Keep abreast of new products and technology in the Plant Engineering and Maintenance fields
  • Ability to read (and sometimes modify) electrical and mechanical machine prints
  • American and foreign prints
  • Hydraulic prints
  • Be computer literate
  • Be knowledgeable enough about the Plant Engineering and Maintenance functions
  • Have the knowledge, training and experience with operating machine shop equipment
  • Lathe turning
  • Surface grinding
  • Welding
  • Work extended hours

  • Act on job requests from all people in the company

  • Monthly inspection of exit lights, fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, metal hammers, hoists, AED, water softener, ladders, air compressor filters, ARC flash equipment
  • Maintain continuity of maintenance operations from one shift to the next
  • Interact with 2nd and 3rd shifts on a daily basis
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner
