Job Summary
Operate various tools and equipment safely to perform general maintenance and repair duties on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structural, and appliance systems. Identify broken equipment or uncertain conditions, report them to the department supervisor, and establish effective working relationships with team members across different departments. Maintain the work area and machinery in a clean, safe condition while executing preventative maintenance on building grounds as required. Perform drywall repairs and painting, read safety rules and procedure manuals, and uphold a positive customer service attitude with staff and residents. Work different shifts including weekends and holidays, standing for long periods and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or some college credits from a technical school
- one or more years of related experience and/or training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proficient in all aspects of apartment maintenance, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structural, and appliance repair
- experience with drywall repairs and painting
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondences
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Teamwork with the ability to work within different departments and with other staff
- This position requires the ability to work different shifts, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours outdoors in different weather conditions
- The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms
- This position requires the ability to review detailed documents and read computer screens
- The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
