Maintenance Shop Manager

Job Summary

Schedule and administer fleet maintenance while troubleshooting equipment problems and supervising shop staff. Communicate vehicle service availability to dispatch and operations personnel, review repair orders, and approve account payable documents. Direct hiring, firing, training, and performance reviews for subordinates; manage budget variances and order parts or subcontract repairs. Ensure daily compliance with state, federal, and company safety requirements while maintaining a safe working environment. Perform hands-on work activities and supervise bus fueling as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior work experience as a Diesel Mechanic
  • 5+ years of hands-on mechanical supervisory experience
  • CDL Operator's license with required endorsements
  • Ability to lift 20 to 50 lbs
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Computer skills
  • Industry experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and school bus equipment
  • Ability to perform hands-on work activities
  • Ability to make personnel-related recommendations
  • Ability to ensure compliance with State, Federal and Company requirements
  • Ability to ensure a safe environment exists
  • Ability to ensure maintenance and related activities are in conformance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to review repair orders
  • Ability to order fuel for vehicles
  • Ability to order parts
  • Ability to subcontract repair work
  • Ability to initiate and implement projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs
  • Ability to train maintenance technicians on current operating procedures
  • Ability to arrange services for building and ground keeping
  • Ability to complete special projects as assigned
  • Ability to supervise bus fueling
  • Ability to review financial and budget variances
  • Ability to review repair orders or code
  • Ability to approve account payable documents
  • Ability to handle employee complaints or grievances
  • Ability to handle performance reviews
  • Ability to plan and direct the work
  • Ability to discipline
  • Ability to approve salary increases or decreases
  • Ability to train and employee development
  • Ability to provide shop staff oversight
  • Ability to provide maintenance operational visibility to the Location Manager
  • Ability to communicate availability of vehicles for service with dispatch and other operations personnel
  • Ability to manage efficient maintenance performance of the location
  • Ability to ensure safe working condition of fleet
  • Ability to schedule and administer fleet maintenance
  • Ability to assist in troubleshooting problems with equipment
  • Ability to work closely with the location manager and region maintenance management
  • Ability to provide status of maintenance and budget requirements
  • Ability to ensure that maintenance technicians are trained on current operating procedures
  • Ability to ensure that maintenance technicians are properly equipped
  • Ability to ensure that maintenance technicians are motivated
  • Ability to ensure the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost effective manner

Desired Qualifications

  • Industry experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and school bus equipment is preferred
