Job Summary

Perform routine maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance on facility buildings, equipment, and infrastructure, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, and mechanical systems. Repair and patch concrete, brick, plaster, walls, ceilings, floors, and other building components while maintaining accurate records of work completed and materials used. Utilize electronic work order and maintenance management systems as required, and respond to maintenance emergencies and assist with facility operations as needed. Maintain, inspect, clean, and properly store tools, equipment, and work areas while following all applicable safety procedures, security protocols, and departmental policies within the correctional environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid New Jersey driver's license
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting, climbing, bending, standing for extended periods, and working in varying indoor and outdoor conditions
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in general building maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices associated with maintenance and construction activities
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and repair work across multiple building trades
  • Ability to diagnose maintenance issues and determine appropriate corrective actions
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, equipment, and machinery
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and utilize computerized maintenance management systems
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with supervisors, correctional staff, contractors, and other County employees
  • Ability to work independently and respond effectively to routine and emergency maintenance situations
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and professional correctional environment
  • Mercer County residency

Desired Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience performing general building maintenance, construction, facility maintenance, or work in one or more skilled trades
