Job Summary
Install, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems by changing cylinders, air valves, and associated components. Perform basic mechanical repairs such as replacing sheaves, belts, chains, and sprockets, while assisting in the rebuild of gear boxes, valves, and cylinders. Use stick welders and oxygen/acetylene cutting rigs safely to fabricate fixtures, platforms, and components according to specifications. Read and interpret schematics of complex systems, identify and correct problems in a preventative manner, and machine simple components using milling machines, lathes, and grinders. Catch calls, complete assignments promptly with limited assistance, and operate cranes, manlifts, and forklifts. Maintain excellent housekeeping practices in the parts room and shop area while following all safety rules and company policies.
Required Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum one year of professional maintenance experience
- Satisfactory completion of an accredited technical school maintenance program
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to effectively communicate preventative maintenance to supervisors and machine operators
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fraction, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to comprehend and interpret basic mechanical prints and schematics of systems
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations without supervision
