Job Summary
Monitor and perform routine preventive maintenance and repair on buildings, machinery, and chemical equipment at water/wastewater treatment plants or pumping stations. Execute general maintenance tasks including grounds care, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and welding while utilizing O&M manuals and technical publications. Maintain thorough process records and logs, input data into computer systems, and handle chemicals safely under direct supervision. Respond to emergency situations and participate in an on-call rotation as essential personnel, potentially using air respirators or SCBA. This role requires a valid Texas driver's license, Water/Wastewater Treatment Operator "C" License, and one year of maintenance experience.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Water/Wastewater Treatment and Operator Competency License as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within one year (if applicable)
- Water- Surface Water Treatment Operator "C" License (Required within 3 years of hire date, if applicable)
- Basic mathematical functions and computer skills
- Ability to comprehend and carry out written and oral instruction
- Ability to read operation and maintenance manuals, blueprints and safety data sheets
- Must pass a physical and physical ability assessment specific to this position
- Must be able to work in conditions including exposure to extreme weather, odor, noise, chemical hazards, gases and dust
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
- Must be able to walk up and down several flights of stairs
- Must be able to climb and descend ladders
- Must be able to work at heights
- Must be able to work in tight or confined spaces
- Must be able to use hand and power tools including drill press and lathe
- Must be able to use welding equipment
- Must be able to operate mowing equipment

- Must be able to perform general housekeeping and janitorial services
- Must be able to perform carpentry, painting, plumbing, grounds and welding work
- Must be able to demonstrate proper use and safe operation of hand tools & power tools
- Must be able to utilize O&M Manuals, technical publications and manufacturers' specifications
- Must be able to assist with data input into computer system
- Must be able to maintain thorough and complete process records and logs
- Must be able to effectively utilize computer applications and software, including but not limited to; Microsoft Office business applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.)
- Must be able to utilize computerized maintenance management system or enterprise software
- Must be able to utilize SharePoint or other common cloud based file sharing services
- Must observe all safety guidelines and security measures as established by the Authority
- Must maintain good communications with supervisor and coworkers
- Must be able to respond to various emergency situations, including after-hours, as directed by supervisor
- Must be able to participate in an emergency on call program
- Must be able to safely handle and unload chemicals in the plant
- Must be able to report to work when scheduled during departmental and/or emergency situations including, but not limited to, extended periods of inclement weather when travel may be difficult
- Must be able to exercise judgment about whether to escalate issues
Desired Qualifications
- One year of maintenance experience preferred
