Job Summary
Maintenance Mechanic (Housing) responsible for plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical repairs in university housing units, including installation and repair of walls, doors, windows, fixtures, plumbing lines, HVAC components, lighting, and floor coverings; perform preventative maintenance, operate various hand and power tools, and use shop equipment; interpret drawings/specifications, follow safety procedures, and coordinate with supervisor for extensive repairs; requires 1–3 years of hands-on trades experience, ability to read shop drawings, and a valid driver’s license; typical schedule 7:30 am–4:00 pm, with background checks and Union affiliation in effect; position at Penn State University Park and eligible for related benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training
- Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of effective experience
- Ability to operate shop mathematics and read drawings/specifications
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license; background checks required
- Penn State does not sponsor visa; authorization to work in the U.S. required
