Job Summary
Maintenance Mechanic role at the Florida Department of Management Services in Tallahassee. Responsibilities include performing preventive and routine maintenance on plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning, and ventilating systems; inspecting equipment; completing work orders; managing inventory of parts; calibrating and repairing temperature controls; maintaining mechanical rooms; performing minor building repairs (lighting, locks, fixtures, plumbing, welding, etc.); reading blueprints; and ensuring safety and tenant relations. Requires mechanical, plumbing, and electrical experience or vocational training, along with a valid driver’s license, physical ability to perform duties, and willingness to work after-hours and be on-call. Emphasizes safety, professional conduct, and veterans’ preferences aligned with state employment.
Required Qualifications
- Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment; or vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours
- A valid driver’s license
- Must be available after-hours for callbacks or shift work at night, on weekends and state holidays when necessary
- On-Call Assignment – This position has been approved for On-Call in accordance with Section 110.2035 and Florida Statutes, Chapter 60L-32, Florida Administrative Code
- Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position
- Adheres to safety awareness policies in the workplace, views safety videos when presented and attends required safety meetings
- It is required that courteous and respectful behavior is displayed at all times
- A professional image is needed as this position represents the department to both the public and tenants
