Job Summary
Maintenance Manager (Director of Maintenance) responsible for developing and implementing the overall maintenance strategy for the transit fleet and facilities, leading maintenance supervisors and technical teams, establishing KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives, and fostering a culture of safety and accountability. Will manage union relationships and ensure compliance with the CBA, oversee preventive/predictive/corrective maintenance for buses and non-revenue equipment, optimize schedules to maximize fleet availability, oversee facilities maintenance, monitor maintenance performance metrics, drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions, and manage annual maintenance operating and capital budgets. Requires collaboration with OEMs and suppliers, use of CMMS, and adoption of new fleet technologies; positions involve safety and regulatory compliance, DOT/OSHA guidelines, and a drug screen/background check per DOT regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of vehicle, equipment, and hydraulic maintenance experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Maintenance Manager role in a Transit environment
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid MA driver license, CDL preferred
- Ability to work without direct supervision
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Union and contract negotiation experience
- Ability to work flexible schedules that may include nights, weekends, and holidays
- Computer literate
- High level of attention to detail
- Effective communication skills (written and oral)
- Strong organizational planning skills
- Strong practical skills
- Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
- Basic math skills
- Ability to work in a union environment
