Maintenance Manager

Job Summary

Direct all plant maintenance activities, including oversight of supervisors, administrators, and skilled trades in a unionized environment. Manage the preventative maintenance program to ensure effective PMs for all bakery equipment while continuously improving the program to reduce downtime and costs. Ensure associate safety and compliance with OHSA and Worksafe BC requirements, and oversee plant projects involving associates or outside contractors. Schedule work orders in Maximo, assess training needs, and handle associate issues in accordance with the collective agreement. Maintain positive union relations, develop capable associates, and assist with capital project implementation. Ensure efficient operation of plant equipment and services through cost control, safety, and product quality management. Work alternating shifts including weekends and holidays.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering, or equivalent, preferred, or a trade certification as a Licensed Millwright or Licensed Electrician, with related experience or a degree in engineering or related field
  • A minimum of 8+ years of maintenance experienced in a unionized, strongly automated, fast paced manufacturing facility, with 5+ years in management
  • Flexibility to work alternating shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Sound knowledge of Worksafe BC and OSHA requirements
  • Proven track record of compliance and continuous improvement in improving safety in the workplace
  • Ability to train Direct Reports
  • Excellent knowledge of troubleshooting, adjusting or repairing of equipment
  • Working knowledge of work orders and preventative maintenance
  • Experience in working with operational budgets
  • Knowledge of MS Office
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

Desired Qualifications

  • Food, beverage or packaged goods industry is a definite asset
  • Competence in PLC for troubleshooting and programming change would be an asset
  • Experience with food processing, CFIA, HACCP, and Continuous Improvement Process would be an asset
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as project management skills
  • Ability to develop and foster a results-driven team
