Job Summary

Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical systems across district facilities, including chiller components and control circuits. Lead installations, calibrate electronic and pneumatic controls, and monitor energy management systems to ensure safety and efficiency. Manage inventory, develop preventative maintenance programs, and train junior staff while responding to emergency HVAC issues and adhering to industry regulations. Maintain comprehensive records and collaborate with supervisors and external vendors to keep facilities operational. Remain on call after hours for urgent repairs.

Required Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • vocational training in HVAC, refrigeration, electrical systems, and related fields
  • minimum of five years of hands-on experience in HVAC maintenance and repair
  • equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • universal chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
  • valid South Carolina driver's license
  • ability to lift between 20 and 50 pounds on a recurring basis
  • considerable skill and hand-eye coordination for precise tasks, such as troubleshooting, wiring, and calibration
  • ability to evaluate and judge the functional characteristics of HVAC systems, components, and performance data
  • ability to convey or exchange technical information clearly and effectively to supervisors, coworkers, and external vendors, including written and verbal instructions
  • ability to read technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and regulatory documents
  • ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate records of HVAC systems, repairs, and maintenance
  • ability to effectively communicate HVAC-related technical information, both verbally and in writing, to team members, supervisors, and others as needed
  • ability to operate HVAC maintenance tools, hand tools, and testing devices effectively and safely
  • ability to coordinate hand and eye movements in operating HVAC equipment and tools
  • ability to distinguish between different wiring colors, gauges, and other equipment components necessary for the maintenance of HVAC systems
  • comprehensive understanding of HVAC systems, electrical components, energy management, and safety regulations
  • knowledge of HVAC maintenance practices and troubleshooting techniques
  • ability to interpret technical schematics, blueprints, and operational data
  • ability to maintain high standards in HVAC repairs, ensuring that all systems are operating efficiently, safely, and in compliance with relevant codes
  • ability to efficiently complete all required tasks in a timely manner
  • ability to consistently fulfill responsibilities with minimal supervision, completing work to a high standard and within specified timelines
  • sound judgment in diagnosing HVAC system malfunctions and determining appropriate repair strategies
  • ability to adhere to established safety protocols
