Job Summary

Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment to maintain airfield surfaces (runways, taxiways, air carrier ramps, and related areas) in accordance with FAA rules; perform pre-use inspections; repair fences and airport security features; remove wildlife and hazards; conduct general maintenance such as trash pickup and power washing; perform pavement and joint repairs; maintain irrigation and lawn areas; and communicate via two-way radios. Requires High School diploma or GED with at least two years of equipment operation experience, ability to read safety rules and manuals, basic landscape/pavement knowledge, CDL Class B with endorsements (or ability to obtain within 12 months), FBI background check, pre-hire and random drug testing, and 24/7 on-call availability with potential overtime. On-site work at Grand Rapids, MI with varied summer/winter shifts.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with minimum two years' experience in operating equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, regulations and requirements related to the work
  • Ability to read and interpret Manufacturers’ Operating Manuals for equipment, vehicles, hand-held equipment and power tools
  • Basic knowledge of landscape and grounds maintenance practices
  • Basic knowledge of pavement maintenance and repair practices
  • Skill in use and operation of manual and power tools commonly used in landscape and grounds maintenance, and removal and repair of concrete and asphalt pavement
  • Ability to operate two-way radios and other communications devices
  • Working knowledge of standard operator safety practices
  • Prior experience in airfield maintenance preferred
  • Must pass FBI background check and pre-hire/drug screenings
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Commercial Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements (CDL Class B with Airbrake Endorsement); must obtain if not possessed within 12 months of hire
  • Must be available for 24/7 on-call and able to work overtime as required
