Job Summary
Maintenance Engineer responsible for general and preventive maintenance across trades including painting, electrical repairs, plumbing, welding, carpentry, door/locking systems, hydraulics, and snow removal. Performs cleaning, repairs, and installations, maintains maintenance logs, follows safety procedures and MSDS guidelines, and supports campus operations through room/furniture setups and after-hours responsiveness. Requires High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or related maintenance. Schedule is 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m., Monday–Friday at Grayslake Campus; full-time with a 40-hour workweek and a $22.93/hour base pay plus $0.50/hour shift differential. Proficiency with reading technical manuals and strong problem-solving and communication skills are essential; ability to lift up to 70 lbs regularly and operate ladders or lifts with accommodations as needed. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and service excellence to support student success and the College’s mission.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or preventive maintenance programs
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs regularly and over 70 lbs occasionally
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
