Maintenance/Custodial Worker

Job Summary
Conduct preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and daily sanitation duties across buildings, grounds, and equipment. Perform tasks including HVAC system monitoring, plumbing and electrical fixes, painting, carpentry, and clearing clogged lines. Respond to maintenance requests and work orders while managing tool inventory and safety compliance. Complete regular floor maintenance, snow removal, and accurate log documentation. Submit weekly logs to the Facility Director and adhere to on-call rotation requirements. Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with residents, staff, and visitors.
Required Qualifications
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate
- One (1) or more years of work experience in a maintenance role
- Working knowledge of the standard tools and practices of the various trades such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry and plastering
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the mechanical and building trades
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements relating to agency facilities
- Ability to perform semi-skilled and skilled work in a variety of mechanical and building trades
- Ability to interpret and work from sketches, blueprints and penciled layouts
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to diagnose maintenance problems and determine appropriate repair methods
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
- Ability to maintain accurate maintenance logs and documentation
- Ability to operate motor vehicles, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely
- Physical ability to lift, carry, climb, bend, stoop, and perform manual labor in various environments, including outdoors and in adverse weather
- Ability to perform a variety of routine manual tasks requiring the exertion of physical strength in the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of a building and equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to perform elementary/basic work/tasks in a variety of building trades
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and/or motorized equipment when necessary
- Knowledge of safe cleaning practices, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of cleaning chemicals
- Ability to establish and maintain positive professional relationships with staff
- Valid driver's license
- Current automobile insurance
- Insurable under the agency's motor vehicle policy
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Must be available for evening or weekend work
- Must participate in an on-call rotation
- Must comply with all existing OSHA requirements and regulations
- Must remain alert during work hours and comply with attendance policies
- Must submit to a background screening
- Must not be under the supervision of the Federal, State, County or Municipal Corrections Department
- Must not have any pending felony or misdemeanor charges other than minor traffic charges
