Job Summary
Maintenance Assistant performs general maintenance repairs (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, etc.), conducts routine inspections of building systems and equipment, and responds to maintenance requests. The role assists in preparing rooms for new residents, maintains tools and records, handles basic groundskeeping and seasonal upkeep, supports emergency maintenance needs, assists with moving furniture or heavy equipment, and ensures compliance with safety regulations and facility policies. Indoor/outdoor work in a long-term care setting with interaction among residents, staff, and visitors; requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work both independently and as part of a team.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous maintenance or handyman experience is a plus (healthcare or nursing home)
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Respectful and compassionate attitude toward elderly residents
