Maintenance Assistant

Job Summary
Conduct preventive maintenance and upkeep for building systems, grounds, and equipment, including lubricating motors, inspecting pumps, testing fire doors, and repairing structural damage. Perform housekeeping duties such as emptying waste, replenishing supplies, washing windows, spot cleaning carpets, and operating laundry equipment. Manage inventory of repair parts and tools while ensuring safety compliance, pest control, and proper use of cleaning chemicals. Assist residents with moving furniture and help maintain a clean, sanitary environment. Work a 50/50 split between maintenance and housekeeping tasks, reporting hazards to the Administrator or Environmental Services Director.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Ability to read, write, and make simple mathematical calculations
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions that are provided in written, oral, or diagram form
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently to accomplish assigned tasks, recognize areas in need of maintenance, attention, and safety concerns
- Ability to get along well with diverse personalities; be tactful, mature and flexible
- Valid license
- Ability to maintain good attendance and attends mandatory in-service meetings
- Average knowledge of fire alarm and sprinkler systems and of chemicals
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manual
Desired Qualifications
- One year of experience in institutional maintenance department preferred
