Maintenance Assistant

Job Summary
Maintenance Assistant responsible for keeping the building in good repair and hazard-free, including electrical, plumbing, heating/cooling systems; maintaining fire alarm and emergency lighting; servicing HVAC units; conducting monthly building/grounds checks; responding to emergencies on an on-call basis; coordinating maintenance with other departments; performing minor carpentry/painting; ordering supplies; conducting fire drills; maintaining exterior grounds; ensuring compliance with safety regulations and building codes; maintaining records of tests and maintenance; serving as Emergency Response Coordinator; handling hazardous waste disposal; and performing physical tasks up to 75 pounds with readiness for indoor/outdoor work in extreme temperatures.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- One year certification from college or technical school preferred; or five years related maintenance experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Five years in a maintenance role preferred
- Ability to read and interpret safety roles/instructions/manuals
- Working knowledge of equipment and facility management services
- Knowledge of building codes and safety regulations
- Must be able to distinguish colors
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical tasks
- On-call for emergencies
- Experience with fire alarm and emergency lighting systems
- Experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems
- Experience with grounds maintenance
- Ability to coordinate work with other departments
- Possibly perform minor carpentry and painting
- Maintain records and test results for safety systems
- Maintain safe and clean environment
- Maintain and inspect fire extinguishers
- Annual facility assessments and emergency planning
