Job Summary
Maintenance Worker 1 responsible for monitoring building and medical-related systems and equipment, responding to demand work orders, and performing preventative maintenance. Reports to the Lead - Physical Plant Services. Requires two years of maintenance experience with electrical, carpentry, plumbing, heating, or air-conditioning, along with Grade 12 education. Proficiency in mechanical equipment knowledge, blueprints interpretation, and safety practices. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and manuals, use Microsoft Office/Outlook, demonstrate initiative, attention to detail, team collaboration, and effective problem-solving. May require on-call work, travel to regional facilities, and bilingual English-French capabilities for designated positions. Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license and ability to travel; on-site/hybrid remote not applicable. The role is based at Portage Regional Health Centre in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The organization supports Indigenous applicants and bilingual service where designated.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum two (2) years' experience in a maintenance position
- Experience with electrical, carpentry, plumbing, heating, or air-conditioning
- Completion of grade twelve (12) education or equivalent
- Knowledge of mechanical equipment and their functions
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and safety practices
- Knowledge of Fire Codes and CSA standards
- Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and equipment manuals
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and Outlook
- Demonstrated initiative and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to respect and promote culturally diverse population; bilingual in English and French may be required for bilingual positions
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to an all-purpose insured vehicle
