Job Summary
System Administrator role at Kyndryl focusing on IBM z/OS mainframe platforms. Lead and manage z/OS system programming initiatives, design resilient mainframe infrastructure, handle upgrades/migrations/SMP/E maintenance, and support JES2/JES3, CICS, DB2, IMS, and MQ subsystems. Drive automation, performance, capacity optimization, and root cause analysis for critical incidents. Ensure security, compliance, and SLA adherence; support disaster recovery and monitoring integration. Mentors teams and collaborates with vendors and stakeholders to drive modernization and continuous improvement in enterprise mainframe operations. The role emphasizes leadership, modernization, and cross-team collaboration within a hybrid-friendly environment.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of IBM z/OS system programming expertise
- Strong knowledge of z/OS internals and architecture
- Proficiency in SMP/E installation, maintenance, and upgrade management
- Hands-on experience with JES2/JES3 administration and operations
- In-depth understanding of mainframe storage (DASD, DFSMS, HSM) and networking (TCP/IP, VTAM)
- Enterprise subsystem support for CICS, DB2, IMS, MQ
- Performance tuning, capacity planning, dump analysis, and advanced problem determination
- Root cause analysis capability for critical incidents
- Experience with automation and scheduling tools on z/OS
- Experience with system upgrades and migrations
- Knowledge of security administration and compliance on z/OS
- Disaster recovery and high availability concepts
- Monitoring and observability tools for mainframe environments
- SLA-driven production support
- Incident, problem, and change management familiarity
- Shell/REXX/CLIST scripting
- Vendor coordination and defect resolution
- Demonstrated leadership in enterprise mainframe operations
- Willingness to learn and grow in a hybrid/cloud context
- DevOps practices for mainframe and modernization initiatives
- Zowe or API enablement familiarity
- Compliance/audit frameworks and ITIL practices
- Mentoring and stakeholder management capabilities
