Job Summary
Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and setup requirements for metallic and nonmetallic parts. Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions on material as guides for subsequent machining on conventional, special purpose, and numerical control machines. Select, align, and secure fixtures, tools, and accessories; calculate and set controls to regulate speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut. Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions, adjust controls as needed, and verify finished work piece conformance to specifications. Fit and assemble parts into complete assemblies, verify alignment, and install replacement parts to ensure functionality. Operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts and develop specifications from general descriptions. Confer with engineers and production personnel to resolve machining or assembly problems.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- three to five years related experience

- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Successfully complete Work Steps assessment
