Job Summary

Set up, operate, and adjust conventional or automatic machines including lathes, drill presses, and grinders to create replacement and new parts for repairs or prototypes. Machine parts to specifications using precision instruments like micrometers and Vernier calipers, while monitoring feed and speed during operations. Maintain machine tools in proper condition, measure metal stock, and assemble or install repaired and new equipment. Fabricate products from planning through assembly and testing, designing fixtures to meet special engineering needs. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of various metals and measurements used in machining processes
  • Knowledge of machinist, CAD and/or CAM software
  • Knowledge of mathematics and its application
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
  • Knowledge of monitoring gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
  • Ability to safely use or learn to use piranha, metal shear, and metal breaks
  • Manual dexterity
  • Arm-hand steadiness
  • Multi-limb coordination
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
