Job Summary
Machinist I (1st Shift) at STERIS — responsible for setting up and operating CNC and conventional Mills, Lathes, and Grinders to machine quality parts for surgical equipment and related items. Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T, maintain print tolerances, enter program data, and use precision measuring devices to verify in-process dimensions. Maintain safe, clean work area following 5S and Lean Manufacturing principles; report safety issues; stay quality-focused; assist with training other operators; adapt to business needs and collaborate with leadership. Shift is 7:00am–3:00pm, Monday–Friday; includes potential overtime. Requires HS diploma/GED; two years machinist experience; ability to read specifications, perform math, and communicate effectively.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED required
- Technical degree preferred
- Minimum two years machinist experience
- Ability to set-up and operate CNC and conventional Lathes and Mills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
- GD&T knowledge
- Use of precision measuring instruments
- Strong math skills
- Ability to train others
- Able to work overtime
- Lean Manufacturing knowledge preferred
