Job Summary
Set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and numerical control machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. Read blueprints and sketches to determine dimensions, tolerances, and setup requirements, then measure, mark, and scribe workpieces. Select and secure fixtures, tools, and materials on mills, lathes, and grinders while calculating controls for speed, feed, and coolant flow. Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions, adjust settings as needed, and verify finished workpieces against specifications. Fit and assemble parts, install replacement components, and operate welding equipment. Maintain a clean, safe work environment in the Machine Shop. This part-time role at Panasonic Energy Corporation of America in Columbus, GA, requires a first shift schedule of 8 hours per day, 3 days per week.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Two to three years related experience and/or training
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of vendors or employees of organization
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Capability to read and interpret process information
- Understanding of the impact their actions have on the quality objective
- Valid authorization to work in the United States
- Pre-employment background check and drug testing is required
- Must be able to stand
