Job Summary
Use cutting equipment to prepare specimens for testing and design, set-up, and perform various machining tasks according to customer specifications. Mentor less experienced machinists by communicating machining processes and technical data while maintaining equipment and scheduling preventative maintenance. Record dimensions in accordance with quality assurance requirements under direct supervision. Requires moderate physical effort including lifting over 50 lbs periodically and standing for long periods. Must possess an Associate degree in a related testing or science field and 3-6 years of machining shop experience. Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in related testing or science field
- 3-6 years of experience in a machining shop environment
- In-depth understanding of specimen preparation
- Depth of understanding related to machining concepts, measuring instruments and dimensional concepts
- Working knowledge of machine shop safety protocol
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Working knowledge of laboratory safety
- Lifting <50 lbs. often
- Lifting >50 lbs. on occasion
- Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
- Ability to lift 50+lbs periodically
Desired Qualifications
- High school/ diploma or GED certificate
- College or vocational school coursework
- May have earned Associate degree mechanical related field
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plus
