Job Summary
Manufacture, repair, and rebuild mechanical components using stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, and specialty alloys. Set up and operate conventional machine tools including lathes, boring mills, and milling machines, while programming, setting up, and optimizing CNC machinery. Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machine speeds for various materials, maintaining required dimensional tolerances through precise alignment and machining practices. Interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical specifications to determine proper machining methods, tooling, and feeds. Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments and debug CNC programs developed by others. Apply advanced shop mathematics to calculate dimensions and machining parameters. Follow all safety regulations, procedures, and best practices while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of conventional and CNC machine tools
- Knowledge of machine tool attachments such as rotary vises, magnetic chucks, vertical milling heads, angular drive heads, taper attachments, and rotary tables
- Knowledge of properties and machinability of various metals and synthetic materials
- Knowledge of trade mathematics including plane geometry and trigonometric functions
- Knowledge of applicable safety standards and shop procedures
- Skill in setting up and operating a variety of machine tools
- Skill in CNC programming, troubleshooting, and editing
- Skill in interpreting blueprints and technical documentation
- Skill in using precision measurement instruments including: Vernier calipers, Micrometers (inside, outside, depth), Height gauges, Dial indicators, Surface gauges, Gauge blocks, Optical and mechanical comparators, Go/No-Go gauges
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
