MACHINIST (CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)

Job Summary
Outside machinists install, groom and test the ship’s major mechanical components and systems on commercial or naval ships in various stages of construction, overhaul, or repair. Responsibilities include working with steam turbines, reduction gears, propellers, reactor components, catapults, weapons systems, and auxiliary equipment such as laundry, food service, or refrigeration. They operate a wide range of tools and machinery—from hand tools to mills, lathes, grinders, and precision equipment. The role requires possession of one or more certificates or diplomas in machining or a directly related field and physical ability to kneel, lift 40 lbs, work at heights, and perform overhead work. Nice-to-have experience includes prior mechanical work in automotive repair, plant maintenance, machinery installation/repair, and formal training in machining, diesel technology, automotive, HVAC, or related fields.
Required Qualifications
- Must have certificates of completion or diploma in machining or directly related field from a recognized program (high school vocational program, community college, trade school, technical college, apprentice program, post-secondary institution, or military equivalent)
