Job Summary
The Machinist applies mid-level machining skills to independently setup and operate manual and CNC machine tools to produce precision parts per engineering drawings. The role reads blueprints and GD&T, selects tooling, sets machine offsets, and conducts in-process and final inspections with precision instruments. Maintains safety and 5S standards, documents production and quality records, and may assist in training other machine operators. The position emphasizes setup, operation of lathes/mills/drill presses, adherence to tolerances, and collaboration with supervision to ensure quality and productivity in a manufacturing environment. The work is performed in Girard, Ohio, with standard shop responsibilities and PPE requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; vocational or technical training in machining preferred
- Minimum 2–4 years of hands-on machining experience in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T symbols
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges)
- Working knowledge of speeds, feeds, and tooling selection for various materials
- Basic understanding of CNC operation (G-code familiarity a plus)
- Demonstrated ability to work with tolerances of ±0.005" or tighter
- Experience with CNC turning and/or milling (Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, or similar controls)
- NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) certification
- Experience with first article inspection or SPC processes
