Job Summary
Machinist A on 2nd shift works from engineering drawings to manufacture and assemble precision parts using manual and CNC machinery. Responsibilities include operating and understanding grinders, milling, and lapping machines; performing shop floor programs; using gauges and instrumentation for pass/fail inspection of ultra-precision tolerances; reading blueprints and process specifications; contributing to Lean initiatives and continuous improvement; performing miscellaneous cycle-time tasks; maintaining a clean work area; and applying quality control measures to ensure parts meet required dimensions and customer specifications. Skills highlighted include problem solving, independent work, basic program structure understanding, and proficiency with COS software and precision measurement instruments (air mikes, micrometers, dial indicators, templates, feelers, gauges, form masters, calipers). The role reports to the Precision Manufacturing Supervisor and requires safety compliance and self-direction in a manufacturing environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent certificate
- Minimum one-year prior machining experience
- Ability to read blueprints
- Ability to read calipers and micrometers
