Job Summary
Perform in-process and final part inspections to ensure product quality while maintaining equipment, tooling, and materials readiness. Execute CNC machine operations, including manual setups and non-routine fabrications, utilizing advanced shop math and GD&T principles to meet tight tolerances. Provide training to mid-to-upper skill level operators on CNC equipment setup, operations, and maintenance within a clean, safe work environment. This role supports the missile defense industry within Northrop Grumman's Space Sector in Promontory, UT. The position requires a swing shift schedule (Sunday through Wednesday) and adherence to strict security clearance and citizenship requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2 years additional education and/or related experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
- Minimum of a 2-year technical degree and/or a certificate in machine shop technology
- 2+ years' experience on 3 Axis CNC machines
- Experience running manual machines and performing set-ups
- Ability to read and interpret production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications (English)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Expert in GD&T
- Experience with CAD model interpretation and translation into Mastercam
- Experience in following written set-up instructions and/or performing unique set-ups
- Demonstrated ability to resolve unforeseen, unique issues as they arise in machining a part(s)
- Experience in complex measurements and advanced shop math calculations relative to tolerances, dimensions, tooling, and feeds and speeds
- Ability to understand and work with knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and disciplines
- Experience fabricating component parts where set-ups are non-routine and tolerances are difficult to acquire and maintain
- Expert on materials and machining processes
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as required
- Ability to work in a standing position for extended time periods
- Able to lift or move a minimum of 35 -50 lbs. for up to 12 hours per day; pushing or pulling 35 -50+ lbs. occasionally throughout the workday
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Siemens, Fanuc, & HAAS Controllers
- Proficiency in CAM programming with Mastercam
- 4 and 5 Axis experience
- Experience machining energetic materials
- 4 years additional education and/or related experience
- 4+ years' experience on 3 Axis CNC machines
- 4 and 5 Axis experience
