Job Summary
Setting and operating CNC sliding head lathes to manufacture components from bar stock for internal assembly flow lines, inspecting against engineering drawings, and performing routine machine maintenance. The role involves a two-week rotating shift pattern covering morning and evening shifts, aiming to optimise set-up times, monitor tool life, ensure traceability documentation, and uphold health and safety standards while delivering quality parts on time. Desirable experience includes Fanuc programming, AS9100 aerospace quality awareness, and knowledge of twin spindle machines. Must be capable of repetitive manual tasks, working as part of a team or independently, with strong attention to detail and effective communication.
Required Qualifications
- GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths Grade C or above or relevant experience
- Technical knowledge of operating CNC machine tools
- Experience of CNC lathes with a minimum of 4 axis
- Experience reading and editing Fanuc based programs
- Competent in reading and understanding engineering drawings
- Ability to inspect work using measurement equipment to ensure conformance to drawings
- Ability to perform daily/weekly/monthly maintenance checks on machines
- Ability to optimise efficiencies and monitor tool life
- Ability to carry out deburring, cleaning, inspection, and traceability documentation
- Adherence to Health and Safety procedures
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Good communication skills
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Capacity to work to tight deadlines while maintaining quality
- Physical capability for manual labour (lifting, bending, standing)
- Knowledge of operating twin spindle machines (desirable)
- AS9100 aerospace quality standard knowledge (desirable)
