Machine Shop - Foundation Team Lead

Job Summary
Lead daily Machine Shop operations by managing capacity, tooling, and equipment readiness to ensure safe, reliable delivery of high-quality parts and prototypes. Plan shop capacity to support engineering, R&D, and program needs while translating design intent into manufacturable solutions. Manage a small team of machinists and technicians through staffing, training, performance management, and active coaching. Drive preventive maintenance, capability upgrades, and machining roadmaps to maintain equipment readiness. Collaborate with engineers and proto teams to balance demand and prioritize improvements across MDUs. Ensure adherence to safety standards and precision manufacturing practices. Act as a subject matter expert to advise stakeholders on machining requests and resource utilization.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors or equivalent experience in engineering or in relevant technical field
- 10+ years technical background in relevant domain or relevant engineering service
- Experience operating in a complex engineering environment
- Technically skilled individual with extensive knowledge of machining and/or lab management
- Strong structuring and prioritization skills, driving efficient use of tools and enabling services
- Hold strong communication capabilities, enabling clear articulation of complex technical guidance across diverse stakeholder groups
- Knowledge of / experience with effort estimating, risk analysis
- Experience in leadership
- Must be able to read and interpret data, information, and documents
- Can observe and respond to people and situations and interact with others encountered in the course of work
- Can learn and apply new information or skills
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
- Must be able to sit; walk; talk and hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, crawl, reach, and stretch
- Must be able to close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Must be legally authorized to access controlled technology prior to beginning work
- Must be able to work under deadlines
- Must be able to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings
- Must be able to move around the campus
- Must be able to ensure adherence to safety standards, quality requirements, and precision manufacturing practices
- Must be able to lead, manage, and develop machinists and technicians, including staffing, training, knowledge retention, skills growth, and performance management
- Must be able to drive preventive maintenance and capability upgrades, including machining roadmaps, tools purchases and installation
- Must be able to translate engineering design intent into manufacturable solutions
- Must be able to act as a subject matter expert for the machine shop team and the stakeholders to advise and consult on machining requests and challenges
- Must be able to consistently achieve results, even under tough circumstances
- Must be able to make good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward
