Job Summary
Operate encapsulation equipment to produce soft gelatin capsules meeting specific quality standards by ensuring correct materials are fed, adjusting controls with hand tools, and monitoring ribbon thickness, temperature, weight, and size. Troubleshoot equipment or process problems quickly, perform changeovers between products, and disassemble, clean, and reassemble machinery for new batches. Scoop capsules onto trays, spread them into single layers, and stack them for drying while completing stack cards accurately. Lift and transport containers of in-process, raw, finished, or waste products, maintain logs and enter data using a computer, and strictly adhere to safety rules and good manufacturing practices.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma/GED completion or 5 years of work equivalency
- Complete working knowledge of the encapsulation process
- Fluent English skills to read/understand written instructions, and other information; to maintain routine written records, and to communicate problems effectively to supervisors
- Accurate arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, division) to calculate shell and fill weights, and calculate the time a tank will run out of gel or medicine
- Manual dexterity to manipulate controls, disassemble/assemble equipment using a variety of hand tools
- Physical ability to stand/walk for much of work shift, and push/pull/lift large containers weighing up to 50 pounds
- Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot and fix equipment malfunctions
- Physical ability to periodically push/pull containers weighing up to 500 pounds and lift containers up to 50 pounds
- Ability to perform this job safely in accordance with standard operating procedures and good manufacturing practices without endangering the health or safety of self or others
- Ability to adjust to distractions and interruptions and handle multiple priorities simultaneously
