Job Summary
Set up and operate assigned machines to perform diversified machining operations including face, turn, bore, drill, chuck, ream, groove, undercut, broach, keyway, hone, taper, grind, tap, cut threads, lap, job, and shape parts. Read and interpret blueprints and job specifications to plan setups, select feeds and speeds, determine operation sequences, install tooling, and adjust stops. Use precision measuring tools to verify dimensions against print specifications while loading and unloading machines. Maintain an orderly work area and prioritize safety while operating two or more machines when cycles permit.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general educational diploma (G.E.D.)
- Knowledge, skills, and ability to learn basic mechanic principles
- Capability to be certified as a forklift driver
- Ability to constantly move up to ten (10) pounds
- Ability to frequently move up to twenty (20) pounds
- Ability to occasionally move up to eighty (80) pounds
- Ability to constantly reach and handle
- Ability to frequently stoop, crouching, and grasping
- Ability to occasionally climb, balancing, and kneeling
- Ability to work from simple blueprints and job specifications
- Ability to perform exacting setups
- Ability to select feeds and speeds
- Ability to determine sequences of operations
- Ability to install proper tooling and attachments
- Ability to adjust stops and attachments
- Prioritizes safety and following regulations
- Organizational skills to be able to maintain an orderly and clean work area
- Limited experience and some knowledge of machining technology
- Knowledge of mathematics
- Knowledge of tooling applications
- Knowledge of machining characteristics of materials
- Ability to set up and operate any machine tool to perform diversified operations
- Ability to use required precision measuring tools and gages to ensure dimensions are to print specifications
- Ability to operate two or more machines
- Ability to check work to maintain quality
- Ability to load and unload machines
- Ability to perform surface grinding operations when assigned
- Ability to perform related duties as assigned
