Job Summary
Machine Operator III in a polyurethane foam fabrication facility responsible for safe and efficient movement, staging, and tracking of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods. Ability to receive and verify polyol/isocyanate components, stage materials per batch sheets, and transfer finished components using forklifts and material handling equipment. Maintains inventory accuracy (cycle counts, EDI/ERP/WMS records), labels with lot numbers, and ensures hazardous materials are managed per SDS/RCRA. Operates forklifts (sit-down counterbalance, reach trucks) and foam bun conveyors, conducts pre-shift inspections, and enforces 5S and PPE requirements. May provide on-the-job training and serve as backup to supervisor, coordinating workflow during peak periods. Requires forklift certification and 3–5 years of relevant experience; preferred hazardous materials certification and knowledge of polyurethane chemistry, safety, and inventory systems.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum 3–5 years of machine operating experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Experience operating forklifts and powered industrial trucks
- Current forklift operator certification (sit-down counterbalance and reach truck) or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Hazardous materials handling certification preferred (HAZWOPER awareness-level or equivalent)
- Solid understanding of polyurethane foam raw materials, chemical properties, and safe handling requirements
- Proficiency with WMS, ERP, or inventory management software; basic computer skills required
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, bills of lading, SDS sheets, and production schedules
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and inventory management
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Basic math skills including weights, measures, and quantity calculations
