Job Summary
Fabricate metal and plastic components by operating a variety of metal cutting machine tools, including engine and turret lathes, milling machines, and drill presses. Produce parts from raw materials using blueprints, sketches, and specifications to meet manufacturing tolerances. Select feeds and speeds, grind cutting tools, and perform necessary mathematical computations while self-inspecting work before downstream processes. Maintain a clean work area, follow safety policies, and participate in corrective and preventative initiatives. Complete job order forms, assist new employees during training, and perform minor equipment repairs. Transition from Machinist A to Master Machinist while supporting quality and Lean process improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years vocational technical training or equivalent experience
- Meets required experience, skill, and behavior competencies to make Machinist A → Master Machinist transition
- Knowledge of variety of tools and equipment such as engine and turret lathes, milling machines, drill presses and assorted hand tools
- Ability to read blueprints and work to manufacturing tolerances
- Ability to make necessary machine shop math computations
- Ability to perform unassisted set-ups
- Ability to set up feeds, speeds and tools
- Ability to use all precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, to perform in-process inspection of own work
