Machine Operator - Extrusion

Job Summary
Set up and operate extrusion machines and manufacturing processes while making press and tooling adjustments at floor management direction. Read work instructions to determine job specifications, material requirements, and machine adjustments, then produce quality products using established plans. Monitor equipment to ensure it is not malfunctioning, assist with minor repairs, and report major issues promptly. Stack, mark, pack, and transport finished work pieces. Use dial calipers, snap gauges, or micrometers to measure components and make intermediate adjustments to adhere to specifications. Maintain safety awareness by recognizing hazardous materials and completing all required safety training. Work overtime as scheduled and assist co-workers in cross-training activities.

- Ability to apply shop math skills
- Ability to follow quality plans and work instructions
- Ability to use common tools of machine operations
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to read and interpret documents like safety rules and instructions
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
- Ability to follow written, oral or diagrammed instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving more concrete variables
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms
- Required to stand, walk, sit, communicate and occasionally to stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Must frequently lift up to 35 pounds

Desired Qualifications
- High school graduate/GED
- Six (6) months related experience in machine set-up/operation
- Equivalent training to machine set-up/operation experience
- Specialized manufacturing/quality knowledge
- Trained to make press and tooling adjustments
- Familiar with and uses dispatch list
- Flexible
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a work team
- Actively involved in cross-training
- Assists co-workers in cross-training
- Capable of training/monitoring co-workers
- Awareness of procedures to use around hazardous materials
- Recognizes HAZMAT conditions
- Ability to make intermediate adjustments to Extrusion equipment and tooling
- Ability to stack, mark, pack, and transport finished work pieces
- Ability to assist with minor repairs
- Ability to report major malfunctions in a timely manner
- Ability to monitor work to ensure that machine/equipment is not malfunctioning
