Job Summary
Setup and offset machines, select and secure fixtures, and calculate machining factors to produce high-precision cutting tools. Verify finished workpieces against blueprints and specifications using micrometers and calipers, while checking machinery daily for functionality. Operate lathes, mills, grinders, and shapers to machine parts to exact tolerances, adjusting feeds and speeds as required. Requires one year of machine shop experience and strong math skills for metric-to-inch conversions. Located in Welland, ON, this non-exempt role reports to the Production Supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum of 1 year machine shop experience
- Strong math skills
- Ability to accurately read blueprints
- Ability to calculate dimensions and tolerances
- Ability to machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders
- Ability to measure, examine, and test completed tools
- Ability to set up, adjust, and operate basic machine tools
- Ability to monitor feeds and speeds of machines
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stoop, bend or kneel when required
Desired Qualifications
- Certification from a qualified training institution in the field of machining
- Experience with Blanching Machines
