Job Summary
Senior Machine Learning Systems Engineer to architect and build scalable backend services for a global, remote-first media intelligence platform. Responsibilities include end-to-end system ownership of backend components, designing data models and high-throughput ingestion/processing pipelines for video, audio, image, and text content; leading AI/ML workflows for metadata extraction, content analysis, scene detection, transcription, embedding generation, and multimodal inference; optimizing model serving for latency, throughput, reliability, and cost; building vector search, retrieval, and semantic search capabilities; deploying on cloud platforms with observability and fault-tolerance best practices; and mentoring engineers while collaborating with product and ML teams. Required experience spans backend architectures, model APIs, embedding pipelines, OCR/speech-to-text, and multimodal model integrations, with strong Python/Node.js skills, HuggingFace ecosystem familiarity, and production-grade distributed systems knowledge.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- 5-7+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally building scalable distributed systems, media platforms, data pipelines, or high-throughput backend services
- 3+ years of experience integrating AI/ML inference systems into backend workflows (model APIs, embedding pipelines, OCR, speech-to-text, scene detection, or multimodal model outputs)
- Hands-on experience creating AI-powered processing pipelines for image, video, audio, or text analysis
- Practical experience with production model optimization (batching, caching, quantization, prompt optimization, routing, latency reduction, cost optimization)
- Experience with vector search, semantic search, media retrieval, or similarity-matching systems
- Mentoring engineers, leading technical discussions, influencing architectural decisions
