Machine & Fabrication Shop Helper

Job Summary

Assist machinists, millwrights, and fabricators with day-to-day production needs by gathering, organizing, and staging tools, equipment, and materials. Prepare raw materials and workpieces for machining, fabrication, and assembly while operating basic hand and power tools like grinders, saws, and drills. Perform material handling tasks including moving, loading, and unloading metal stock, and assist with deburring, grinding, and cleaning metal parts. Maintain organized work areas, inventory supplies, and conduct general shop cleanup to ensure safety and efficiency. Follow established safety procedures and PPE requirements while communicating material needs to shop personnel. This role offers exposure to machining, metal fabrication, and industrial shop operations for those with hands-on experience or a willingness to learn.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a machine shop, metal fabrication shop, job shop, manufacturing facility, industrial environment, or similar hands-on setting
  • Familiarity with common hand tools and power tools
  • Experience with or exposure to grinders, saws, and other basic metalworking equipment
  • Basic familiarity with measuring tools, such as tape measures, calipers, micrometers, or similar equipment
  • Familiarity with raw metal stock, including plate, sheet, bar, tube, pipe, or structural materials
  • Forklift experience or certification
  • Hands-on or entry-level manufacturing experience
  • Willingness to learn
  • Willingness to take direction from experienced tradespeople
  • Ability to anticipate what is needed to keep jobs moving
  • Ability to contribute wherever they can make the shop more organized and efficient
