Job Summary
Machine Builder Level 3 will lead the assembly, integration, and testing of automated machinery and systems, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components to build machines per engineering specs and customer requirements. The role requires advanced mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, and the ability to work independently while mentoring junior builders. Responsibilities include planning and leading builds, communicating issues and redlining, integrating mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, mentoring Level 1–2 builders, and leading installation projects to meet timelines and budgets. Additional duties cover assembling, aligning, and installing components, reading engineering drawings and schematics, troubleshooting, collaborating with engineers and programmers, maintaining a safe, organized workspace, documenting processes, and supporting continuous improvement. This position requires travel for installs (domestic and international), and the candidate must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, work overtime/weekends as needed, and adhere to safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- 4 plus years’ experience in machine building, preferably in an automation or manufacturing environment
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or vocational training
- Vocational school or junior technical college training in related industry
- Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing noted tasks related to machinery building and repair work
- Experience with precision alignment and the use of measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions
- Strong mechanical and electrical assembly skills, with experience in pneumatics and hydraulics
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively in a team environment
- Willingness to learn and grow within the automation industry
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to travel on installs inside and outside the United States
- Must furnish the basic hand tools of the trade
- Ability to operate a forklift
