Job Summary
Set up, program, and operate a variety of woodworking machines including hand routers, shapers, drill presses, lathes, and planers. Monitor machine operation, adjust settings to correct problems, and ensure conformance to specifications. Maintain equipment cleanliness, perform basic preventive maintenance using LOTO procedures, and adhere to safety regulations while wearing required personal protective equipment. Communicate with supervisors and shop personnel to resolve machining or quality issues. Stand and walk consistently during an 8+ hour day while lifting 35–50 lbs. and interpreting drawings and instructions.
Required Qualifications
- English
- Ability to read and interpret drawings
- Follow routers
- Use simple math to perform basic calculation
- Use basic hand held measuring tools
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
- Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong
- Frequently lifting 35 – 50 lbs. onto and off work station
- Occasionally lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
- Team lift greater weights
- Must be able to stand and walk consistently during the 8+ hour day
- Repetitive use of hands
- The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
- The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
- Close vision of less than 3 feet, with or without corrective lenses, for precision
