Job Summary
The MA Apprentice program is a 12-month registered apprenticeship that trains participants to become Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMA). Apprentices complete 2000 hours of paid on-the-job training and 364 hours of supplemental coursework, attend in-person lab days, and participate in hands-on skill practice. The role supports the patient care team by assisting with immunizations, charting, referrals, patient intake, vital signs, rooming, and coordinating care within a PCMH framework, while ensuring quality measures and documentation are maintained. This position emphasizes teamwork with providers, on-site coaches, and care coordinators to deliver timely, courteous primary care services and to prepare for MA-C certification, with potential costs for training and materials disclosed to the apprentice.
Required Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent
- Proficient in reading, writing and speaking English
- Able to provide proof of 7.0 HIV/AIDS training from WA State DOH-approved training provider
- Able to provide proof of up-to-date First Aid and CPR training
- Have the time and resources to devote to online coursework, lab days, and documentation associated with the program
- Ability to spend at least 5 hours per week on online coursework for a full year
- Access to a computer with internet, browser, and capable hardware/software
- Ability to attend up to four in-person lab skills/review days within a three-hour drive
- Ability to attend a one day testing session within a three-hour drive
- Ability to track own work hours and skill practice using forms
- Understanding and agreement to terms of the Registered Apprenticeship Program
- Wage progression structure understanding
- Ability to work well with a Coach and as part of a primary care team
- Be genuinely interested in and committed to a career as a Certified Medical Assistant
- Possess good communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to perform MA Apprentice scope of practice (immunizations, vitals, documentation)
- Ambition to obtain MA-C certification
- Current CPR card (required)
- Previous experience in Family Medicine is preferred
