Job Summary
Performs structural repair/refurbishment of light rail vehicles for DART’s Fleet Services Division. Repairs LRVs damaged in accidents using sheet metal, structural steel, and related materials; fabricates structural posts, flooring, sub-flooring, roof panels and supports; straightens and fabricates body panels and collision posts; handles interior and exterior wiring replacements and travels to multiple work locations as needed. Prepares vehicles for painting (body fillers, sanding) and paints to DART specs; operates and maintains paint equipment. Conducts interior/exterior inspections and polishing as required. Reads and interprets technical manuals, safety rules, and regulations; works in environments with exposure to dust, noise, and chemicals; must maintain safety, focus, and customer service under pressure; flexible to variable shifts, including nights and weekends; capable of lifting up to 70 lbs and moving equipment; may be required to travel to multiple work locations; must obtain and maintain required certifications and DOT physical with pre-employment drug test and random testing.
Required Qualifications
- Associates Degree from an accredited college or university or certification from an accredited technical program in Structural Body Repair Technology
- Must obtain and maintain certification in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position
- Must have a valid Drivers License class C, and be able to obtain a Texas class C within 90 days of employment; no DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty six (36) consecutive months on driving record in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles
- Applicants/employees must pass and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination including pre-employment drug test and must submit to Federal Transportation Administration-required random drug/alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment
- Proficiency with personal computer (PC), software applications to include MS Office (Word, Excel, Access)
- Must be able to read and comprehend a variety of work related/required technical manuals, safety rules and regulations
- Ability to find solutions to mechanical and technical problems
- Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours, nights, holidays, weekends, and short notice availability
- May be required to travel to multiple work locations
- Lift objects weighing up to seventy - (70) pounds such as tools, equipment and parts
- Must be able to work in crowded and tight spaces
- Ability to use standard devices weighing up to 50lbs such as hand tools, portable shop test equipment for testing and other required equipment
